Most Renovations Fail Before They Even Start.

You’d think that most renovation disasters happen during the construction. A lot of times this isn't the case. Most renovations go wrong before they even start.

Why?

Because most people skip over this crucial step that shapes their entire outcome. Define your renovation goals before starting anything.

‘Why’: Are you renovating to increase the resale value? To finally love your space? To make it more livable for your family? Your reason determines everything — from design, to budget, to finished product.

‘Need to prioritize high value areas.’ Want the best return on investment? Focus on kitchens, bathrooms, and open-plan living spaces. These are the money makers. These are the rooms that are mostly used in the household.

‘Think for the future.’ Future-proof your home. If your family’s growing, or you’re working from home more, now’s the time to build around that. Make it functional for 5 years from now.

‘Design’ When trying to design your renovation, always keep in mind your current floor layout. Its so important to understand that what your trying to design needs to coincide with your current floorplan. So many people see nice fancy designs on Instagram and Pinterest and think “Wow that looks nice, I need to have that” forgetting that 90% of the design process comes down to how functional the space is, not just how good it looks in a picture.

‘Trends’ Be careful to not chose fixtures and fittings based on ‘the new trend of the month’ 99% of the time its just a faze and there’s usually a good chance a year later your freshly renovated area becomes ‘outdated’ again. Always keep in mind the current design state of your home as it is now. Chose some nice fixtures and fittings that tie everything together.

Get these goals right from the start and you’ll have a much better renovation experience. If you would like to hear more about the ideas I have for your home improvements get in touch with me. https://www.balfourservices.org/free-design-consultation
